Question
My maternal aunt and uncle had no children. So, they adopted a daughter 20 years ago. They bear all her education expenses and got her married. The parents who adopted her are no more alive. And now, she has two sons and a daughter living in her house. My maternal aunt’s question is, who will inherit the land under her and her husband’s name after their death?
Answer
As a Muslim, adoption or foster children are not considered as heirs. In this case, the property left by the maternal uncle and aunt will belong to their brothers, father, mother, and their children. In this case, the maternal uncle and aunt can donate or sell the land in their lifetime.
