Can a Mother Get the Share of Her Son’s Land in Bangladesh?

Question:

Does the mother get the share of the son’s land? I want to know according to Islamic law and the law of our country.

Answer:

In Islamic law and Bangladeshi inheritance law, the mother does have the right to inherit from her son’s estate, but the share depends on several factors:

  1. Islamic Law: Under Islamic inheritance law, the mother is entitled to a share of her son’s property. If a son dies and leaves behind a mother, the mother will inherit one-sixth (1/6) of the son’s estate, provided the son has no children. If the son has children, the mother’s share can be reduced depending on other heirs.
  2. Bangladeshi Law: Bangladesh follows Islamic law for Muslim inheritance matters. Therefore, if your son passes away, as the mother, you are entitled to one-sixth of the estate unless there are other heirs like a wife or children. If the son leaves a wife or children, the shares are divided according to Islamic principles and the prescribed shares for each heir.
